The Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Mr. Lamin Jabbi, officially inaugurated the National Digital Addressing Steering Committee (NDASC) as informed by the National Digital Addressing Policy 2023.
In his keynote, Minister Jabbi welcomed members and expressed deep appreciation for their commitment to this national cause. He emphasized that digital addressing is not just an ICT initiative, it is a cornerstone of national development, enabling:
✅ Seamless e-commerce and postal/courier delivery
✅ Smarter urban planning & land administration
✅ Faster emergency response (ambulance, fire & rescue)
✅ Reliable navigation and access to social amenities
✅ Improved tax collection, data management, and service delivery
About the NDASC
The NDASC is the primary advisory and oversight body for the National Digital Addressing Project. It brings together government, local authorities, academia, civil society, and the private sector to ensure the system is inclusive, sustainable, and aligned with national priorities and international best practices.
Roles & Responsibilities of the Committee
- Coordinate the rollout of the National Digital Addressing Plan.
- Oversee digital addressing projects and infrastructure.
- Support local authorities in data collection, validation, and management.
- Lead public awareness and adoption campaigns.
- Mobilize resources for long-term sustainability.
- Ensure interoperability with related systems (land, telecoms, postal, logistics, etc.)
Hon. Jabbi urged the Committee to go beyond being “just another committee” and instead drive solutions, tackle challenges head-on, and deliver a system that works for every Gambian.
The National Digital Addressing System will be a true enabler of digital government, economic growth, and social inclusion, putting The Gambia firmly on the path to becoming a fully digital nation.
